Teefie-Brush Tuesdays?

IMG_7454

I’m not sure what I think about this thing Starling calls Teefie-Brush Tuesday. On the one hand, she mooshed something around in my mouf, but on the other hand, I now have a pleasant beefy breaf thing going on.

In other news, I was sitting in Master Betty’s lap just trying to bathe, and he had the audacity to move slightly. When I froze with my leg in the air and stared at him pointedly, do you know what he said to me? He said, “If you can sit over here in my lap and clean your balls, can’t I at least clean my eye?” Well!

Toby Towers!

construction toby towers feb 6 two

Toby Towers has arrived and construction begins! I have been working hard to help build the tower! I had to bat around screws and inspect each house-section before it was put together. By the time it was finished, I was so exhausted I could only look at if for a few moments before I had to take a nap! I wore myself out with that hard work!

I learned that humans have a thing called a shower, and they bathe kind of like birds. It kind of freaked me out, so I went to snuggle with the human lady and stared in that direction until the man came out of there!

How does your kitty react when you take showers and baths?

Oh! And if you like this tower, you can buy one here!

No-Tea Time!

IMG_7422

My husband purchased a cat tower which he is referring to as Toby Towers. It’s supposed to arrive today, so construction of the tower will begin soon! As a prospective investor, Toby has been surveying the land. We’re gonna put it near the sunrise window so that he can look out easily and sun there.

He hasn’t shown any interest in looking outside yet, but he’s only been here a few days. I think he needs to get very used to this apartment and know it inside and out enough to be comfortable in here before he starts to take a curious peek outside.

I think I’m getting the hang of his personality now enough to switch from blogging from my perspective, to telling you things from Toby’s point of view! Maybe next post we’ll start to hear from Toby!

Toby apparently loves the smell of Earl Grey tea. Caffeine is really bad for cats because they can’t process it in their bodies, so you gotta watch out. I’ve read many places that they’d have to drink a lot for it to effect them, but better safe than sorry. He is obsessed with getting over to it, so I have a hand fan that I splay open between him and the side table when he keeps looking, and it freaks him out and seems to offend him, so he sprints away. I think I’m slowly training him to keep his curious nose away from my drinks as long as I stay vigilant and consistent. I’m not gonna leave my drinks unattended, though.

What sips do your felines most often pilfer from you?

Post a Lookout!

arm nest sleep

He likes to hang out in his safe space, explore a two foot square area, run back to his safe place, yowl about what he discovered in the new area, and then come back to explore two more feet. As long as we’re sitting still he continues his adventures. He had done the whole house, but after he got scared of the chair, he wants to come explore all over again from the living room forward. I hid some treats around where I know he’s headed, and he gets excited to find a little feast like a proper hunter.

He’s eating about what the recommended feeding amount is for him now, and I’m glad about that! He’s not eating every last bite and making me wonder if it’s enough, but he’s eating enough for me not to worry that he has something wrong with his appetite. He likes to eat most when one of us is in the room with him, and we kind of have to stand around and not really do anything; just be a lookout minion. He is starting to go get some cronches on his own, though.

We wound up going with Iams kitten food. The extra fancy brands DIDN’T HAVE ANY KITTEN FOOD VERSIONS! UGH! But it seems like the Iams brand is good for them too, so we didn’t have to go with a food that just isn’t BAD for him, and that pleases me because I know he’s getting the nutrition he needs with Iams. He needs kitten food until he’s a year old to get the right vitamins and such.

The treats we’ve been giving him are the moist Pounce brand in seafood medley flavor, and Whiskas Temptation crunchy Tantalizing Turkey treats. He loves the moist treats, and I break them in half with my fingernail before giving him one or two to kind of coax him to like to investigate kitty friendly areas and do the ‘go here, not there’ type of thing.

OMG he’s so cute running around with these cheeseballs, though. He doesn’t want to eat them, just punch them all over the house. Hours of entertainment, and one cheeseball can apparently last a couple days before it’s collected enough dust to make me swipe it and offer up a new cheeseball. He’s been picking them up once they get cornered and taking it back (in his mouth) to the center of the floor to start the dance all over again. It’s so freakin’ funny and adorable to see him sprint by with a giant orange cheeseball clashing with his little gray face! I’m trying to get him to play more with all his zillion other toys, though, because I don’t know if he should constantly be licking cheeseball dust off his paws on a daily basis.

What are your kitty’s favorite toys and treats? Link to them for us so we can add them to our list of considered kitteh fun!

Move it, Piggy Bank!

no room for pig

There’s not enough room in this town for the two of us, piggy!

Today I mooshed cords into some shelf areas and then secured poster board and foam board around some areas so that there’s not a secret direct line to nomming cords. The bad-plants area is on the top of this shelf as well, so I made a little barrier to stop curious kitties from jumping up to the no-kitty plant area, and it looks like it will work. We’ll have to see when Toby Towers (his cat tower that we ordered) gets here if he’s tempted to try and find a way around this stuff once he’s closer to eye-level with some of the shelves and leaping distance.

We ran out to get a pizza for lunch, and for the first time we didn’t close him into the bathroom while we were away. He was really good while we were gone and just napped in my chair in a pile of blankets, so that’s awesome! He didn’t seem stressed or anything for us to be gone. He did meow a few times when we came back in greeting as if he wondered where we’d been.

First Night

toby cheeseball dreaming2

We decided to leave his safe room (bathroom) open and let him wonder around the house while we slept. He investigated everywhere, and then he slept on my head! He cuddled with me, made me pet him for two and a half hours, and then showed me his belly! I GOT BELLY PRIVILEGES FIRST NIGHT! I didn’t try to test my luck and pet for long, though. He seems to love bedtime, and when I got up too early he meow-yelled at me and refused to come out of the bedroom, so I went back to be for another hour. Then we got up still early but a more reasonable time, according to Toby.

He had a little breakfast this morning, but still not as much as I’d think he should eat. That’s expected though for the first day in a new environment. He’s actually eating sooner than I expected.

He seems to like my husband’s ice pack. He rubs his face on it. What is this cold?? The husband gave him a cheeseball after he walked up and licked it while he was trying to eat, and Toby has had more fun punching that cheeseball around and chasing it than he’s had with any of his zillion toys! Then his cheeseball rolled under a chair where he couldn’t get to it, and he yelled at Master Betty (husband), and he had to get him a fresh one.

Meet October (Toby Toebeans)

cropped-settling-in.jpg

Meet our kitten: October! He’s almost four months old. We’re gonna call him Toby for short, which sounds like toe beans, so I’ll probably wind up calling him Toebeans all the time.

OMG I LOVE HIM! We have him set up in the bathroom and closed securely in there so that he has his safe space to start out with. His open litter box, food and water, and his carry crate are in there so he has somewhere to hide if he wants; and I draped a towel over a rack and the side of the toilet so he has a little cave.

He’s really shy, but we have plenty of love and patience to coax him into letting loose. He’s meowing a lot and of course is ignoring his food and treats, but that’s expected. I’d like for him to get comfortable with us and to be regularly going in his litter box before we crack the door and let him explore the house gradually so the whole new environment at once isn’t too much on him. Kitties don’t like change much, so it takes some longer than others to get used to new places.

I’m going in there often, sitting down quietly and moving slowly, talking sweet, and offering to pet him, and dangling toys at him. He watches the toys, but he wasn’t so sure about me until my husband took a turn to meet him. He took a cheeseburger in there, the cheater! He offered him a little bite, and even though the kitty was too stressed to really eat it, he came over to him and started purring really hard, sniffing the cheeseburger like crazy, and rubbing his face all over him! I was jealous, haha, but so glad! The hubby called me in there so I could see how much the kitty was still loving on him! I was so excited! Then I gave him a sniff of a cheeseburger nibble, and he slowly came over and let me pet him! He rubbed his face all over my foot. He’s a foot kinda guy, I guess.
